Why Hip Pain Is Common in Active Women

Hip pain in women over 35 is more common than most people realize.

Hormonal changes, muscle imbalances, and shifts in activity levels can all contribute to increased stress on the hip joint. As activity increases, underlying movement issues often become more noticeable.

Many women experience hip pain due to poor movement patterns, weakness in stabilizing muscles, or overuse from repetitive exercise.

Instead of being a sign to stop moving, hip pain is often a signal that your body needs a more efficient strategy.

The Most Common Causes of Hip Pain

Understanding the cause of your hip pain is the first step toward lasting relief.

Some of the most common contributors include:

  • Muscle imbalances between the hips and core
  • Weak gluteal muscles leading to poor joint support
  • Limited mobility in the hip or surrounding joints
  • Overuse from running, walking, or fitness routines

These issues often develop gradually, which is why pain can feel like it appeared suddenly.

Our physical therapists assess how your body moves as a whole to identify what is truly driving your symptoms.

How Movement Patterns Impact Your Hips

The hip does not work alone. It is part of a larger system that includes your core, pelvis, and lower body.

When one area is not functioning properly, the hip often compensates. Over time, this compensation leads to irritation, inflammation, and discomfort.

We focus on correcting these movement patterns so your body can distribute load more efficiently.

This not only reduces pain but also improves your overall performance and endurance.

Strength Is the Key to Long Term Relief

Many women stretch their hips repeatedly but still feel tightness and discomfort.

Often, the issue is not just flexibility. It is a lack of strength and control.

We use targeted strengthening programs to improve how your muscles support your hip joint. This includes building strength in the glutes, core, and surrounding stabilizers.

We frequently incorporate Therapeutic Exercises to create lasting improvements in strength and movement quality.

As strength improves, pain typically decreases and movement becomes more efficient.

Hands On Treatment for Faster Progress

In addition to exercise, hands-on care can accelerate your recovery.

We use Manual Therapy to reduce muscle tension, improve joint mobility, and help your body move more freely.

This approach allows us to address restrictions directly while supporting your progress through movement.

Combining hands-on care with targeted exercise creates a more complete and effective treatment plan.

Returning to an Active Lifestyle

Hip pain should not prevent you from living an active life.

Whether you enjoy walking, strength training, hiking, or group fitness classes, we help you return to those activities safely.

We guide you through a progression that builds confidence and ensures your body is ready for the demands of your lifestyle.

Many patients find they move better than they did before their pain started.

When to Seek Help for Hip Pain

Addressing the issue early helps prevent compensation patterns and long-term limitations.
